Need some input on a system build

Hey guys !

Hope someone can give me some good feedback / comments (good or bad), on a system I am building for myself. I dont upgrade often, but when I do, I try and build something that will last me a while.

Now before I dive into the details on what I am buying, let me just mention some components I have in my current system which I absolutely loved running the last 6/7 years... My main concern is to ensure I am upgrading to something better, without compromising on some of the performance items I already have, or plan on moving over to my new kit.

I like to do video editing (GoPro footage of the stupid things I do), gaming the likes of MMO's like World of Warcraft, FPS like Star Wars Battlefront etc.

Current system :

Screen : 22 inch Junky Philips TN panel
Motherboard + CPU : Asus P6T V2 (LGA 1366) with Intel i7 920 *D0*
Display card : Leadtek Nvidia GTX 570
Memory : 3 x 2Gb Corsair 1600Mhz (9-9-9-24) in tri-channel setup
Boot drive : OCZ Revo X2 - 160Gb (PCIE slot) <-- this is pretty much 4 x SSD's in raid0 on a single card.
Storage drives : 1 x intel SSD via SATA, few WD Raptors + Black editions

New system :

Screen : Asus RoG PG279Q (IPS panel)
Motherboard : Asus X99 Deluxe /U3.1
Display card : Asus Strix 970 - cable to screen : DP1.2 cable for Gsync (apparently Gsync doesn't work via HDMI)
Memory : G.Skill Ripjaws 4 series 32GB (4x8GB) 2800Mhz DDR4
Boot drive : Samsung 950 Pro (NVme) M2 - 256 Gb version
Storage / games drives : Moving the OCZ to gaming drive + few WD black's
CPU : Kinda undecided between the i7 5820K or the i7 5930K

The part that really screws me over, which has uncertainty brewing in my head, is the number of PCIE lanes the two CPU's offer. The 5820K does 28 lanes, where the 5930K does 40. Although I dont see myself running SLI in the near future, its more the I/O data throughput performance that has me wondering if the cheaper 5820k version would be sufficient. I would like my PCIE drives to run to their full potential without dropping to lower speeds.

From what I have been reading, the old architecture I am moving away from, which was pretty damn good back in its day when it was released... It supports 32 PCIE lanes, and also had some funky technology like QPI links (Quick path Interconnect). As with the new setup I moving too, another SSD will running on my PCIE bus now (m2 SSD)... should I start to think about moving to the more expensive i7 5930K cpu rather ? (the cost is quite a big jump). :'(

Everything in my mind tells me the cheaper i7 5820K should be OK with all the SSD's I am going to be running, but if I ever move to SLI, that's when I might see a degradation in performance.

Thanks guys, and looking forward to any feedback (or pitfalls) I should be aware of.

That is a fair question. I think you nailed it though: no SLI would be virtually no difference IMO, and if I were buying right now, I would be perfectly happy with a 5820K.
