Recently, I have posted at other sites like anandtech, but have not received an answer to a question that I have. I have lost 2 hdds due to stupidity and would like to know the following: Does anybody know where I can get the bottom electrical boards to an 8gig maxtor hdd and a 20gig WD? I'm trying to revive my drives if possible. A fellow over at Ninjamicros.com stated that he has done this with 10 hdds, but with only a 20% success rate. Turning over the 8gig maxtor, one can see that one of the chipsets has a burn mark where the metallitic strand meets the chip. The board itself shows little damage where this lead ends. The connection to the spindle from the board also shows no damage. The initial damage was due to a bare wire from the ps. It touched the metal insides of the case but no the motherboard. I did not loose any of the ram (3 sticks of mushkin rev 3 222 or the 1 stick of pc100). I have not tested the agp vid card, the 10/100 ethernet card, or the sound card.
Has anybody ever had this problem and had any luck in reviving a hdd by changing out the electrical board to a hdd? Also, is there a reseller on the internet the just sells the electrical board to a hdd or just sells damaged hdd at a very, very, very cheap price just to get the electrical board?

thanks
