I am about to purchase some rounded ide cables and I need to know if I 18inch ones will do or if I need some longer 24 inch cables. I will have an epox 8k7a and I plan on having drives in the very top bay, any suggestions?

after reading some past threasds I guess I need to go with 24 inch. two questions though. do rounded cables actually help at all, and if so, wheres a cheap place to get some.

check out amdmb's cooling and cases section (The thread has rounded cables in it), some place has a special on their rounded cables, for like $12.99 for 24 inch ide

thanks. could someone give me some info on the optional front 80mm fans on the sx1030, do they have to be antec to use the clip or can it be any 80mm fan.

Your case is the same size as mine and i have the 830. I got the 18" and they reach just fine. Aso for fans use the 2 that come with it for exhaust then get 1 more for the intake. All 80 mm will work.

Exact same size. Look at it this way the case its self is only like 20" tall so 18" cables are just fine.

I have the 1030 case.

I have a total of 7 drives and the 8K7A

2xIBM 20 GB in a RAID (Promise RAID Card in PCI slot)
2xMaxtor 40GB Drives in the next drive cage
1xFloppy above the Maxtors in the cage
1xCDROM in the bottom-most 5.25 bay
1xCDRW in the next one up

I have rounded cables

1 for each drive in the RAID for a total of 2 (18")
1 for the Floppy (18")
1 for the two Maxtors (18")
1 for the two optical drives (24") (18" would have been fine, but I wanted the flexibility to route my cable out of airflow)

I got them from Inflow Direct in yellow. They look very cool.

the only "problem" i have encountered with cable length isn't and to end but the distance from the mobo end to the middle connector. the end connector can reach a cd-rom in the top spot, but the middle connector isn't long enough to get to the cd-rom below the top one. since i have a bunch of ide cables and i'm using an ata/66 card, i figured out a way to reach all my drives...but it will probably be easier to start with 24" cables
