need some info on audio/vid/controller driver re-install issues

well, i'm having problems playing games in winxp pro, so i'm about to remove and either re-install or update audio/video drivers and game controller drivers. do any of you know of problems occurring and corresponding solutions when audigy drivers are removed and re-installled along with vid and controller drivers? or, what is the best sequence to re-install/update those audio/video/controller drivers?

specs: audigy sound(patched), asus 7200 nvidia (latest det drivers), ms sidewinder forcefeedback (latest ms controller software installed)

Here's what I would do:

> Get all of your latest driver files and place them in a temp directory with subdirectories for each component (e.g. Temp/Audio, /Video, /Controller) so that they will be readily available for re-install. Unzip them if neccessary.
> Uninstall controller drivers/software
> Shutdown system
> Remove sidewinder
> Power up system
> Uninstall audio drivers/software
> Shutdown system
> Remove audio card
> Power up system
> Change drivers for video card from nvidia to Windows standard VGA
> Reboot
> Install any chipset drivers (e.g. VIA 4-in-1)
> Reboot
> Install nvidia drivers
> Reboot
> Shutdown system
> Install audio card
> Power up system
> Install audio drivers
> Reboot
> Shutdown system
> Install controller
> Power up system
> Install controller drivers

I know it's a lot to do but sometimes you have to do this type of thing to clean up all the problems.

lanyap thanks for the advice. it's pretty much the routine i follow when running win98se, except i didn't think about r&r'ing the chipset drivers. good one and thanks alot for the reply. i can dive into fixing the problem with some confidence after reading your reply. wish me luck tweaking winxp pro. 🙂
