Need some ideas how to schedule projects

ok so I work in this sort of web design team and lately we have had trouble communicating what each other is doing...since I'm the one that gets to give out projects I'd like to know what they're doing cause other people give parts of my team projects as well without my knowing...
So I was thinking the easiest and cheapest way would be to just get a big ol white board...put our names on it (theres only 7 or us currently) and then that way write out what projects are being worked on by each and once done can cross it off and simply as that have a good way of tracking...anyone else do anything like this or any better ideas that dont involve software implementations?

Create a scheduling page with php/sql.

want something that people arent going to have to log into...update...we are dealing with Mac people here as well...so it has to be as SIMPLE as possible
