Need some idea's for this essay. Should be easy!

I have to describe 2 converging technologies from the 80's and 90's that led to the internet as a new mass medium.

I was thinking telecommunications/phonelines, and the computer as 2 from the 80's...from the 90's I don't know just quite yet, gotta look into it. Thoughts?

Actually, you'll want to research that, because it didn't exactly start with Apple..

telecoms and computers both far predate the 80's -- does it have to have been *created* in that decade. Surely, the web browser would be one from the early 90's and I think TCP/IP4 was standardized in the early 80's.
