Alright all, recently i received a speeding ticket for doing 70 in a 55 on route 15 in new york (on my way home from Rochester, and Niagara falls.) I had no idea the speed had changed as it was 65 for most of the time, so i set my cruise control to 70 and was just relaxing with my friends. But I got pulled over, cop asks me what the speed limit was, to which I said 65, he told me it was 55 and was real nice, but end of story i got the ticket. Now this wouldn't be so bad, except its my 3rd ticket since December 29th, now before anyone says anything else. I have never been in an accident, and have been driving ticket free for 3 years, it just all happened in a row, and being a 19 year old male its going to suck for insurance. 1 ticket I am fighting (got a ticket for 60 in a 45, i was not speeding whatsoever, and am going to attempt to at least plead to a lesser charge because i was looking for a road i know i wasn't going that fast) and the second one I got a ticket for 55 in a 45 (again no signage that said it switched) either way i am not a bad driver, just ****** luck. Either way the ticket was by a new york state cop. He said i wouldn't "hurt my license" (points) and gave me the ticket.

Now I want to know
-if i argue this about the speed limit can I (because I said i was doing 65, blatantly admitting cause I had no idea of the change)
-If i do plead not guilty, will I have to go to new york to plead my case (not worth it)
-Any advice?
- Any way to negotiate by mail?

The ticket does not list a fine either, so if anyone could give me some idea of fine it would help alot. Thank you!

Get a lawyer! Isn't that an option everywhere? My wife had a couple of wrecks and then some tickets, fought the tickets successfully, although the court costs were a little more than the original ticket. It paid off compared to the proposed increase in insurance rates.

The only way that you can justify an "I did not know the speed" would be to prove that there are no speed markers on the road in your direction of travel from when you last claimed you saw the speed that you claimed you were targeting.

The DOT should be able to tell you where that sign is, or you can go locate it yourself.
If you are incorrect and try to use that excuse, vaseline comes in a super-sized jar.

I just filed guilty for the ticket, talked to the officer and he reprised that I wont be getting any points, I didnt get points for my other ticket either so Ive only got points off the one. Talked to my insurance and my rate will not be going anywhere since I did the drivers ed and had the good student discount, so it looks like it all worked out.
