Hi there, I'm new to this forum so please don't flame..err..insult me.

Actually, I'm 13, and I want to build my own pc..
Well, I have the choice of buying one..but i really want to build it myself, so its easier to upgrade and stuff, BUT my mom won't let me, she said she doesn't trust me to build one, and if it would work or not, so she doesnt want me to waste like 2000 dollars if the computer doesn't work and i screw it up or something...
so, i was wondering if you guys can help me, IF youhave any spare parts that you dont want or just lying around, and you dont know what to do with it? send it to me! it can be a motherboard, soundcard, cd drive, hardrive, anything would help, it can be as slow as a 75mhz or 4 mb ram, or a 1ghz hardrive, i dont care, i jsut need some parts and then when i get enough, ill like buy some cheap weak stuff to build a computer, and if i actually do make it work, my mom would give me ...err..i dont wanna tell ya how much cuz you might try to ripe me off by selling me stuff for a lot more then it cost, to pay for my dream machine.../me drools..anything u got is fine...

Also, for a beginner builder like me, what kind of motherboard should i get? i thought the abt kt7 was good, but then i saw a post saying its hard to use or something, so...any easy boards to work with...

another question is there any booooks or websites you guys reocmmend to help me build a comptuer...

Im posting this topic to all the forum places...like hardware, motherboard, all of them cuz i dont know exactly where this fits...so dont yell at me or something, just delete it if u want....

Well if you actually read all this, i say thank you because this was kinda long...thanks for taking your time out of your life and into mine =)!!

I'm only two years ahead of you. Actually building a new system can be intimatating at first, but it really isn't that hard, at least, putting it together isn't. The trouble comes when problems arise, troubleshooting. That's the hard part about making your own computer, you can't call warrenty and ask them to fix a problem for you. You'll have to learn to fix things yourself. Thanks to the internet however, it's pretty hard not to find an answer to something you don't know how to fix.

All motherboards are pretty similar to work with. Only a few different BIOS and they are all layed out the same. The motherboards that are easy to work with are the stable ones. If you're overclocking (which I take you're not) some motherboards are easier to overclock with then others.

Try www.pricewatch.com to find the lowest prices on parts. If you mother doesn't trust little companies, make sure they have a verification such as Verisign or some kind of images saying they are a TRUSTED website. Or go to www.computershopper.com, they only list verified companies there.

Give yourself a favor and get a tutorial online. Or if you have a little spare change, get a A+ certication book. Under my experience, all those "Building your own pc" books suck. They don't have enough detail, they tell you what to buy, how to upgrade, and how to put it together, but they lack two important things. They don't go into depth about troubleshooting when everything doesn't go as you want (trust me, it won't) and they don't make it so you understand all the parts of the computer. I got my A+ cert when I was 14, the book may seem like a lot (The book I brought was 1300 pages), but if you take the time to understand computers and how they work. You can fix, build, upgrade, whatever. And maybe you can get a A+ Certification along the way.

In case you were wonder, the A+ certifation is a certificate to verify that you have the skills of an entry level computer technician (the guys who fix computers).

If you know how to shop, you can get a pretty descent computer for at least under 1200. Like my newest computer I just brought for learning Linux.

Duron 700mhz(soon to be overclocked if I can)
Abit A7V
256 megs 133mhz Crucial ram
Voodoo 5 5500 64 meg Video Card
Sound Blaster Live Value
40 Gig IBM 7200 GXP Hard Drive
Generic cdrom, mouse, keyboard, 19 in monitor, floopy drive.

All this cost around 850 dollars. Not to shabby if I say so. It'll last me for awhile.
