Need some help with XP Embedded

Got a new device today and I want to give it a fresh install of XPe. I downloaded the latest image from the HP website and it gave me a 'flash.img' file.

I've just run 'XPEFFI.exe' and right now it's busy downloading all the files, is this everything I need to compile my own image?

From what I've read, typically you would run Target Analyzer to generate your .pmq file, but since HP has already done all that for me, is there a way I can just import the flash.img file I've downloaded and remove components I won't need as well as add my own?

I'd like to add a FireFox component and the drivers for my Linksys WUSB54GS. Can components be added from within an installation of XPe, or do you have to build a brand new image every time you want to add a new application/device driver?

I'm a complete newb to XPe, and it seems rather complicated. There's a lot of info to sift through on MSDN, took me forever just to find a link to the XP Embedded Tools. The Database is still being downloaded, but I've installed the Tools using the evaluation product key in the .cab file. How do I register the full version so it doesn't expire after the 120 day trial period?

I have the "Embedded Thumbnail COA" seen here attached to the case. The key is in a different format though:
XXXXX-XXX-XXX-XXX
XXX-YYYYY

Compared to:
XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX

Am I missing a COA?
