Need some help with wireless mp3 control.

I want to somehow have access to all of my mp3 files on my main pc in my garage. Give me some suggestions as to how this would be possible.

I have my whole house networked with cat-6 and have a wirelss router located roughly in the center.
I also have a spare pc that is an older 233MHz pentium MMX. Not sure how much ram but probably ~96MB.

I'd prefer some kind of stand alone device that I could basically "share" my mp3's to. I'd alos like to have AM/FM radio somehow.
Only otehr way I see it is to network the old pc and just share the mp3's but I'd have to get a monitor and basically have a whole computer somewhere in the garage.

There's standalone devices that'll do that, but you're probably better off with the "get the old PC running in the garage" idea. 🙂

Thanks for the quick reply. Are you alluding to the fact that they are pricey? I don;t want to spend more than $200.00 (less would be better) but I would rather not have to go buy a monitor and have to control my music w/keyboard and mouse when I am out there.
You happen to know any specific devices I could look into? Or maybe some links?

Hmm. What you could do is hook the machine up inside the house, run the audio cables out to a receiver/amp in the garage, and then use something like the ATI Remote Wonder to control the PC (Winamp) tunes remotely. It's RF-based, so it wouldn't need line-of-sight, and they're about $30 used. 🙂

thanks again M4H. That's a possible option. I just would rather do this as wirelessly as possible.

Doing a quick google search I came up with this.

Anyone have any experience with something like this? Any other known companies have such as device?

I belive this would go over my original budget because I would have to buy a stereo. The music would transmit from my pc to the above device and then to the stereo in tha garage, right? And I Would control it through the stereo, I think????
