Need some help with Win2k

While playing a full screen game (Quake3, Quake2, Age of Empires 2:Conquerers) if I Alt+Tab the computer restarts. Also this happens when I hit shift repeatedly. Any thoughts?
 
I have problems with minimizing full screen d3d games in 2k as well.
Mine just crashes out with a long long d3d string error.
Update vidcard drivers? Game version?
 
The windows key( left and right of alt key) gets you out of the game nicely in win2k opposed to win98 which it just doesn't do anything.
