I figured you guys could handle these, my daughter and I came up with zip...

I am a man. If Larry's son is my son's father, what relationship am I to Larry?
a. his grandfather
b. his father
c. his son
d. his grandson
e. I am Larry
f. his uncle.

There are 9 justices on the United States Supreme Court. As a gesture of cordiality at the beginning of their yearly meetings, each judge shakes hands with each other judge. Assuming they shake hands with each other once (no more, no less), how many handshakes occur?

Show us how you figured it out, too. We have a bunch of others, but these two smoked our brains.
Bumps will sure help, too.
Thanks everyone!!!

36

Larry->Larry's Son = My son's Father->My son

line up the justices, have first one walk along and shake everyone else's hand then sit down = 8 handshakes.
have the second justice shane everyone else's hand then sit down = 7 handshakes.
.
.
.
and so on.

8+7+6+5+4+3+2+1 = 36

I told her "when you need smart answers, you gotta go to smart people". Talkin to the phone with your dimwit boyfriend on the other end ain't gonna make it happen.
I'm mathtarded. Fortunately for my daughter, I'm cheatproficient. I actually understood one of the last two answers, and we talked them out so she understood them :) I figure it's better for her than copying the smart kid's homework in studyhall.
Try this one...
Study the following conversation.

Ann: I have three children.
Bob: What are their ages?
Ann: The product of their ages is 36.
Bob: I can't Determine their ages.
Ann: The sum of their ages is my apartment number.
Bob: I still can't do it.
Ann: The oldest has red hair.
Bob: Now I know their ages.

Can the children's ages be determined? If so what are they and how did you figure it out?

My answer was "whatthefukizzatsposedtameen".

there are only 2 sets of 3 factors that make 36.

3,3,4
2,2,9

they each have an oldest child and a set of twins. I don't believe that the ages can be found.

actually there are many sets of 3 factors that make 36:

1,1,36
1,2,18
1,3,12
2,2,9
1,4,9
1,6,6
2,3,6
3,3,4

however, only two of these sets have the same sum: 2+2+9=13 AND 1+6+6=13.

with the last bit of info we determine that there is only one oldest child, and therefore rule out 1,6,6

the answer is therefore 2,2,9 as the ages of the 3 children.
