I've just installed Linux Redhat 7.3 on my second pc. I need to burn cds on it and print some files. Also to play mp3 and watch divx movies.

1. How to install programs under Linux. I have a whole cd with software, I unzip it to some folder I've made but there isn't any install or setup file, so what needs to be done?
2. How can I change the resolution?
3. How to install drivers. My sound card doesn't work (Yamaha 719)

Any help welcome:)

to install software RPMs
rpm -i filename.rpm

to install source (tar.gz)
tar zxvf filename.tar.gz
cd filename
./configure
make
su
make install

as for cd burning and stuff, there are a lot of tutorials online, search on google.com/linux

1. Are the files you have RPM's? If they are, you can try to install them via 'rpm -ivh filename.rpm'. If they are sources, you most likely have to extract them (tar -xvzf filename.tar.gz if they end in tar.gz or tgz, or tar -xvjf filename.tar.bz2 if they end in bz2 or tbz2). CD to the directory of the source, type ./configure && make && make install. Wont work for all packages but thats how most of them are setup.

2. Most likely just need to edit your XF86Config-4 file. It's in /etc/X11/

3. I dont know about that certain card but you might have to load a kernel module, or maybe ALSA. Cant really help you there.

To play MP3's, you'll probably want to use XMMS. Its interface is almost identical to WinAmp. For divx, you probably want MPlayer.
