Hello all im new but have been reading all day .. so i need some help on my ram speed to my FSB so i think i have a ram speed i dont need from what i have been reading..
here is what i have
GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3P LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Dynamic Energy Saver Ultra Durable II Intel Motherboard FSB 1600 (O.C.)/1333/1066FSB
Intel Core 2 Duo E6550 Conroe 2.33GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 65W Dual-Core Processor with a FSB 1333mhz
Team Xtreem 1GB (2 x 512MB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1200 (PC2 9600) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory
so from what i have read my ddr 1200 is way more then i need. am i right ?
with that being said when i bench mark it each stick is running at 600 to give me 600x2 (1200) my mobo's FSB is at 1200 as well.
now my question is and im guess that i could have saves a ton of money bough 2 sticks of ddr2 sdram dd2 667 and achieved the same thing since 667x2(1134) and my fsb is topping out at 1200 ? am i getting this right ?
with all that understood (if i am right) i want to upgrade my 1gb to 4gbs and if that x2 ratio is right would i then again go with a lower set of ram because it would be x4 so i would get 4 sticks of ddr2 400 (PC23200) giving me that 400x4 (1600) still over doing my fsb so it will top out at 1200 ? or does it only work with the first two sticks and the second are just encreses the size so it would still be x2 just with a bigger count of ram in all 4 slots.
also should i figgure a higher ram for the two 2.0 pcie x16 graphic cards i wanna add (SLI i think its called) two gforce 8800s
with all that said and if i am right in understanding what i have read on this board why do they sell a ddr2 1200 if its half of it wasted because the fasted i could go OC would be 1600 and not 2400 ??
Thanks for all your help ahead of time..
