Need some help with old raid setup

I want to set up a testbed machine with an old ata 33 raid controller i found and a couple of non-identical 5gb drives. The card has "promise drive defender ultra ata33" written on it but i'm not sure exactly what model it is. I have two non-identical drives connected to it but i could only get them to read on seperate channels. Can i still get a raid array to work this way or do they need to be on the same channel? If it will work what software/utilities can i use to set up the array? I found the card in a pile of garbage so i have no software for it.

Whew! Thanks airfoil, I was just about to give up.

Why does it matter for raid0 if the drives are on independant channels and not for raid1?

Click here and then click on "archives" near the middle of the page. Takes you to the Promise FTP site where they keep the old stuff.

Regardless of RAID 1 or 0, you're always better off running 1 drive on each channel.

Edit: Just clicked on airfoil's first link. Looks the card is RAID 1 only. Without investigating further, my guess is that you're forced to put one drive only on each channel with this card. The card is designed for backup purposes, hence RAID 1.

I wish I could tell you exactly what to do. Your browser security settings are blocking FTP downloads and I can't remember what you need to change..

Try resetting your security settings in IE to default.

If that won't work, I'll download them and email them or host them for you if you'd like.

Those links are the same. Which do you need, 98X or NT? Both the driver and utility I assume?

Try right clicking the file and then Copy to Folder.

I need both and the utility as i'm not sure yet which os i'll be using. Tried resetting all security settings to defaults and nada. If they're small enough an email would be fine however if the utility is to big to transfer to gmail hosting them would be better. If you could do that for me that would be great.
I'll put my email here temporarily *****************.

🙂

I got the utility but the driver link gave me a 404.

Edit: nevermind i've got it.

Is that the 98 or nt driver?
