Need some help with Nero 6.6

Hi all,

I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.....I have tried to burn
some DVD+R's with images and mp3's using Nero 6.6 and
the burn appears to be going fine but when I go to view
the contents of the DVD disk there is nothing on it.

My DVD burner is a NEC ND-3520A that is brand new and I'm
using Verbatim DVD+R media.

I've never used Nero 6.6 and I might be doing something wrong.

Can anyone give me a hand?

Do you have another drive to put your DVD into to check and see if it is recognized in another drive? Are you using a legit version? I've heard of instances where if you use say a bad pirated key this ends up happening. I'm not certain though and this may have been for another software other than Nero. Check the disc in another machine or drive to make sure it isn't there for sure. It could just be a problem with your drive.

i know this may be a stupid comment, but to eliminate possible doubt: when nero finishes burning, you need to click discard and make sure that nero ejects your DVD+R drive. then put the DVD back in and try to see if there are files listed. it doesn't show up until you reinsert a CD/DVD -- and i don't know why.

Thanks for the help......

1. The problem is intermittant it appears. It seems that when I do small
groups of files it works fine but I load it up with say 1500 pictures then
I'm seeing the problem. I don't believe I'm having a read problem with
the DVD unless it is possible for it to read some DVD's and not others.

2. The version of Nero I'm using is totally legit so I don't believe that's a problem.

3. I know what you mean by letting the program finish and eject the dvd and then
putting it back in.

4. I'm going to slow the burn speed down from the 8X max down to 2 or 4 speed
and see if that makes any difference.

5. I'm using a P4 2.4ghz Intel processor and 512mb of ram.


Also,
I would like to be able to put pictures (jpg's) on a DVD and be able to view
them in a slide show on a TV type DVD player.

Can I do that with Nero and if so, how do I do this?

My work rig has the same NEC drive and the same full-retail Nero 6.6. It burns data and DVD-video fine (I've got some Ritek +R single-layer media and have also used some leftover CompUSA ones). I've never had it do that phantom burn thing like you're describing.

My ideas:

1) if you didn't do so already, update Nero to their latest patch version from their site

2) for the slideshow goal, try NeroVision Express, I believe it handles that (sorry, I'm not at work with my riggie so I can't check that firsthand ATM ). Start > Programs > Nero > in there somewhere.

3) if all else fails, use the Nero diagnostic thingamabob (I forget what they call it, rummage in Start > Programs > Nero for it) and send them a help request with the diagnostic file it generates.

A friend of mine with a NEC burner had exactly the same problem with Nero 6.6 but I can't remember what I did exactly that fixed it

I think I installed nForce2 drivers (it wasn't installed at all, so I suspected a DMA problem), updated and reinstalled Nero, updated ASPI drivers. Somewhere along those lines.. and suddenly it just worked! Did you use Nero Express instead of the other interface? I think he had problems when he used Nero Express.. but when I tried burning the same data set with the normal interface, it worked fine.

The funny thing is that I have 2 of these drives on hand
and they both give errors using the slide show feature
with Roxio just as the burning finishing so I tried Nero and didn't see the slide show feature so I just tried to burn the pictures (jpgs) on the dvd (about 3.5gb worth)
and it shows burning and completing but when you look in "my computer" at
the disk shows no data on it and no usuage when you look at "properties" but
the DVD shows the burn circles on it.

Strange deal.......

I believe I've tried regular Nero and Nero Express with the same experience.....Since
I've tried 2 different drives (same model) and still having failures I'm guessing it's
software related.

Now here is a crazy idea, I don't know if it would matter... did you set the DVD region yet? Throw in a commercial video DVD-ROM and that should get it oriented.

I'll try that.....I've got a couple of movie dvd's laying around that I
haven't fooled with yet.....I'm willing to do anything to work this
bug out.

I had "thought" that both of the drives (I have 2 of the same model) weren't
working but I have one of them in an USB enclosure and so far it's not failed
at all at any function. Nero 6.6 has a function to put pictures in a slide show
format on DVD under the video functions. I hadn't seen the function since you
have a sliding bar that you slide in order to see more options.

I guess I've got a bad DVD drive in my machine....I'll have to open her up
and pull the bad one out and put the good one in.
