Need some help with my UPS

I have an APC 1500 XS Back-Ups and every night in the wee hours it beeps quite frequently. I have put up with it for a long time but now I want to fix it. I live in an old old house and I am sure the wiring is wonky. My questions are: Do I need a replacement battery for it or do I need a new UPS?

If I need a new battery can I use marine batteries or would I still need a new UPS for that? I am also looking at Dansdata's DIY Ups, need to calculate the cost/value. Thanks for any input.

You can use marine batteries.
Requires 2 of them usually in serial to get 24v.

If it beeps its usually either overloaded or the batteries are failing.

With your devices plugged into the UPS you can unplug it (the UPS) from the wall socket to see if it keeps everything powered up.
