Need some help with my new Canon a40 Digital Camera

I've been messing around with my A40 the past few days and just started to transfer photos to my computer. I notice they are in JPG format and I want to convert them to BMP or some other file format because when I try to email people the pictures, they are having a hard time viewing them. BMP seems to be the best way to view the pics for most people's computer set up. I'm not all too familiar with how file conversions work, but when I try to use Canon Zoombrowser EX software that it comes with to convert, it says the picture can't be converted. I also notice that I can't view any of the pictures through Zoombrowser.

When I plug the camera into my USB port, it loads up some Windows Picture thing and all I do is select the pictures I want to save, choose the folder I want to save them in. Then, when I go to that folder within Zoombrowser, the pics don't show up.

Can anyone help me out with this? It's probably something simple that I'm missing.

I've got a Canon S30, so I've got the zoombrowser software too. Can't say I can answer your question though because I don't use zoombrowser.

There are other ways however to manage photos you send to people.
You can use the Windows Paint program to "save as" the photos to a different format, bitmap being one of them. Chances are though, that the photos will be too large to email.

You don't mention your operating system. Windows XP has built in features that make it easy to email photos to people, it will downsize them through a wizard.

Fact is, any computer should be able to view jpegs, quite universal. I think perhaps the problem is that you are trying to send large picture files, as the S40, at highest resolution will take a numer of MBs for one photo.

Thanks Slogan

I'm getting frustrated. I can view the JPG files in windows explorer but when I try to bring them up in Zoombrowser, they are nowhere to be found. The only pictures I'm able to view were ones that were already on my computer to begin with and are in BMP format.

In other words, none of the pictures I have taken with my camera are accessible through Zoombrowser, but I know they are on my computer. I even dragged one in Windows Explorer to the folder of pictures I am able to view in Zoombrowser. No luck there either.

I have Windows ME and a Windows based wizard does come up when I first plug in the camera, but all it does is enable me to select the pictures I want to save to my computer.

Any other ideas?
