i have apple mail set up to access email via POP. i know that in windows (outlook to be specific), if i delete the POP account from the program, the email data is still stored on my hard drive (also, it still exists under my local folders). on a mac, if i delete the POP account via the mail program, will my mail also be deleted, or will the mail itself be unaffected (like in outlook)? also, where on the hard drive does apple mail store email data? thanx in advance for your help.

P.S. - i believe the OS of the mac in question is 10.4

I believe the mail is stored approximately in ~/Library/Mail/POP-email@pop.server.com/INBOX.mbox/Messages

My guess is that if you delete the account, the email will go with it. You could always move the email into an offline folder first.

so... ehh... if i did delete the pop account... assuming the folder went with it... would you happen to know if there is anything i can do to recover the data? perhaps norton unerase?

Norton unerase runs on macs? And assuming it doesn't, can anything in windows handle HFS? But I'd start googling "os x file recovery" or something similar :p

Before you do anything drastic, have you looked around to make sure the files aren't still around somewhere?
