Here are the specs

AMD Athlon 2400xp
Asus A7V8X-X (KT400)
512mb PC3200 (256 x 2)
GF4 4600Ti 128mb

so I want to bring my RAM upto a gig. However I am not sure of the make of the RAM I have currently. I know its PC3200 256mb sticks but I have no clue the brand or the timings. I had OCZs sticks but I put those in anouther PC I had and then my buddy had some PC3200 sticks around that I took off of him.

I don't think its dual channel because my mobo doesn't support it and even if it did the AMDs don't benefit much from dual channel anyway(could be wrong).

So should I just pick up a stick of 512mb PC3200 and chuck it into the last free slot and hope for the best or is there a way to find out my timings or atleast the brand or type of memory I am using?

I am also going to get a new video card ... but with the new cards on the horizon I am going to save my money for the now slower cards to bottom out.

It should work, even if the timings or speeds are different, your motherboard will just run all the memory at the speed of the slowest stick of RAM. However, if you have good RAM now, and get a stick like someone just posted with really bad timings, it might be more of a downgrade than an upgrade, because it will be making your old RAM run much slower.

If you want to find out more about your current RAM (speed, timings, maybe even brand) download CPU-z (google it), run it, and click on the Memory tab.

ok well I don't know if this might help but this is the RAM that is in atm
