I am taking econometrics online. I didn't think it would be a big deal because I have taken a math class with this teacher online before. I had forgotten all the special characters for statistics. I am having real problems with getting things like X bar and sigma symbols into my documents. Right now I have a word document full of the symbols and formulas I have already done, but it is growing fast.

I tried using the math input panel from windows 7, but I can't get it to paste into open office. Blackboard says it supports mathml, but I also can't get that to work. Right now I just hunt through the character map for what I need. Does anyone have experience with stat symbols on computers, is there an easy way to do this that I don't know about?

Damn you must be smart taking econometrics online. Econometrics was the only C I got in college. Good luck.

I don't know about that, I could be really dumb for trying to take this online if it turns out to be really hard.

Latex.

If it is just the basic Greek symbols, copy them from your character map. Even better, just make an extra doc that has the symbols you need in variety of forms so you can copy and paste on demand. But I still vote for Latex.

What do you mean by Latex, normally I would search google, but I know better with a word like latex. I also have done what you suggested with the character map, but things like X bar aren't in there, but I did eventually figure that one out.
