Need some help with an old system...

Hello folks,

Well, here's the problem. My dad has a P200MMX on a FreeTech P5F79 motherboard. The installed BIOS (dated 1997) couldn't support any hard disks larger than 30GB. The solution was to flash the BIOS. The newest BIOS I found was dater 1998. Anyway, I flashed it, everything OK, or atleast that's what I thought. I couldn't load into WinXP anymore. I get an error saying something like "disable disk managers, anti-virus software, check for corruption". Well, since the HDD was formated using NTFS, I couldn't do much with DOS. I deleted the partition using FDISK, formated in FAT32, and perpared to install WinXP. I couldn't install WinXP nor Win2k!!! WTF? I always got reading errors. I replaced the ATA cable, cleaned the CD-ROM drive, and tried to install Win98. The thing kept popping out the CD. I had to re-insert it 10 times just to get the copying done. After that, the computer restarted to complete installation. Well, guess what? I get "insuffecient memory error"!!! What's wrong with this machine?

What causes this error? And where can I get the 1997 or 1999 BIOS? FreeTech's web site doesn't list the motherboard any more.

I really appreciate all the help. Thanks for your time...

I had a similar problem with a P166 machine i built. I had to mess around with the hd's Jumpers, then i finally got it to format and copy the files. Make sure bios settings are right, or just reset to default. Especially settings with memory, harddrive, and irq's.
