Need some help with a new Video Card (lets try this again)

Hello All,
I need some help with a problem I'm having. I'm not the best with comptuers, never have been and never willl be. I have a working knowledge that allows me to at least get by in daily life.

When I play WoW, I keep getting the Blue Screen of Death. From what I surmise it appears to be an issue with my graphics card but I'm not sure. If anyone has any other ideas, please speak up. Below is the DxDiag of my system and I'm looking for a new video card. Prefer to keep the cost under $350 if possible. Can someone help me out?

Do you have any software that can monitor temperatures in-game, using an on screen display? Such as MSI Afterburner.

That can help to ensure temperatures are not too high, both on the GPU and CPU. Are you running any overclocks?

Could you just give us a summary of your system and how it works in general? What is your cpu, gpu, power supply? Do you play other games, and does the BSOD happen anytime except when you are playing WOW? When you get the BSOD, does it happen after you have been playing for a while, or when you try to launch the game?

It could well be that the gpu is bad, but it could also be the power supply, ram, bad drivers, or a multitude of things. Can you borrow another gpu to test out the system, or perhaps play on the integrated graphics? As someone else also suggested it could be as simple as some component overheating due to a bad fan or accumulated dust and dirt.

Personally, I have never had a BSOD from bad hardware, usually the entire system will just shut down or windows will not load. Of course that does not mean it cant happen.

1) Viruses
2) Older hardware that overheats
3) PSU dying, unable to deliver clean power, disrupts hardware function.

#1 is nearly always the cause, #3 is also likely on older systems with a generic/bad PSU to start with.

Hi There,
System is an i7 CPU 920 @ 2.67GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.7GH. GPU and power supply came with the system, I don't specifically know what they are. Graphics card is NVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti.

The BSOD happens after I've been playing for about an hour or two. Drivers are all up to date (checked them before I posted). I don't have a GPU that I can borrow and I don't know how to play on integrated graphics. I know some about computers but by no means do I consider myself mediocre at best.

Basically the error code is telling you the system doesn't know why its shutting down. It could be any of the items Silverforce mentioned. I'm guess its about five years old, could be the power supply slowly failing or some corrupt drivers/registry entries or some process running that causing conflicts. Debugging is kind of a hit or miss process. While many hate to do this and avoid it at all costs I'd start with software and do a complete re-install of Windows. Try it with only the bare minimum like the mainboard drivers, sound and video card drivers and WoW (go to Dell's site and get the most current - not whats on the recovery DVD). If its OK for a decent amount of time slowly add back in the other software you run. If BSODs with nothing more than those its either a failing power supply or overheating. Try running it with the side off and a portable fan pointing at it. It it doesn't BSOD you've got your answer. If it still does its most likely the power supply or possibly the video card. Again, its a pain in the butt but I've never found any other way to nail down problems like that.

Bad drivers can be a cause, too (though Windows 7, unlike XP, keeps a lot of drivers in user space so they shouldn't cause a system crash). If this person has installed any non-WHQL drivers, that would be a good place to start looking.
