I have a Gateway system (long story involving a lightning strike at my parents house, I usually build my systems) that uses an Intel D845HV SDRAM 478 pin P4 motherboard.

The system currently is running a Willemette P4 1.9 CPU. I'd like to upgrade to a Northwood 2.4 P4 for the extra 500MHz and more importantly the larger on chip cache, I've seen a lot of tests showing the Northwood really helps mobos with slow SDRAM.

Anyway, I found that on the Intel site I need at least bios P09 (they are currently at version P12) to run Northwood. Problem is my board will not accept the Intel bios upgrade. Won't accept P09 or P12. Either the update runs and after reboot says bios was not updated, or if I run the easy bios update it says the motherboard is incompatable.

What I think is going on is that Gateway has some proprietary code in their bios that is screwing up the Intel bios install. Gateway's newest bios for this board is P06 and thier tech support is no help at all. I've contacted four different tech support people and they just tell me to wait for a bios release.

Is there anyway to "force" the Intel bios update on this mobo?

Have you tried looking for a newer, Northwood supporting, bios right from Gateway?

Yes, the most recent bios for this board on the Gateway site is P06.
