For some odd reason, I thought about some video games I played when I was a kid, and I recall playing this video game at a parent's friend's house. I don't remember what console it was, but based on the time frame, it might have been an NES or Sega Master System.
The whole game kind of felt like stage 2 of Contra (on NES). Stage 2 of Contra looked like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QoHSqNufmcY
Basically, you could play one or two players simultaneously. You are trying to shoot guys in front of you, and you run/jump left and right to aim and/or dodge. I recall the stages we pretty much always outdoors (ie - at a beach, or in a desert).
I thought it might have been a Rambo game, but I look up screenshots of them, and it doesn't seem to be the case. Rambo III for Sega Master System (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oU02MFlKWCM) was a candidate, but apparently, that game kind of scrolled sideways, and the light phaser was used. The game I'm thinking about definitely made use of gamepads.
Any ideas?
