Hi can any one help me to find the answer for one of my assignment (A assignment on a Network Infrastructure) work.

* Explain the terms called RAS1 and RAS2

I asked my lecturer about it, since on the internet it doesn't give a meaning for RAS1 or RAS2. He told me to check on browse the net in the following terms.
IEEE RAS Version 1 & IEEE RAS Version 2
RAS Type 1 & RAS Type 2
RAS Form 1 & RAS Form 2
I checked for the above. But still confusing. Can any one help me please to find the answer for the above question, please....(Please provide me the Web links if possible)

Thanks in advance.

I found several announcements for an IEEE committee meeting on May 9, 2011 to establish the RAS (Robotic and Automation Society) standards, but can't find anything at all about the results of that meeting.

When this question is asked in a course called "Network Infrastructure" then RAS stands for "Remote Access Service" or "Remote Access Server". Dealing with Robots has nothing to do with networking.

RAS servers are technology that is 10-15 years old. When people at home all used a modem to dial into a RAS to connect to the Internet. With the arrival of DSL and Cable, RAS servers are dieing out.

I am not a RAS specialist. But back in the day, I had never heard of RAS1 and/or RAS2. Just RAS. A quick google also didn't reveal anything. I am inclined to think your lecturer made up those 2 terms himself. Or read something confusing somewhere, and now thinks RAS1 and RAS2 are actually acronyms that mean something.

Maybe the question was accompanied by a picture ? With 2 different RAS systems used in 2 different ways ? And you have to explain how they are used/configured differently ? Then RAS1 and RAS2 could make sense as names for 2 different devices. But as terminology, they don't make sense.

Once you learned the answer, please post it back here. We're curious now. :)

While Remote Access Server was my first thought for RAS related to networking, as far as I can tell, the IEEE never created any standards for RAS servers. On the other hand, they DID have a meeting about the RAS that I mentioned (Robotic and Automation Society) just a few weeks before the professor asked this question in benedictme's class, which is why I assumed that it is what he is asking about.

So, either the professor wants the class to report about the results of that meeting, or he wants a report about two different standards for Remote Access Servers. This document describes three different types of RAS servers, but they are not IEEE standards so I'm not sure that it would answer the question anyway.

Regardless, we definitely need more information about exactly what you are looking for in order to answer the question properly.
