Let me first give you all the relevant stats:

AMD XP 2700+
Nvidia Nforce 2 NF7 (bios version 23) Version 1.1
Kingston Hyper-X (2x256 MB) PC3200 DDR (in banks 1 and 3 running in Dual)
WD 40 GB Hard Drive
Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 1
SLK 700 Heatsink with a 70mm fan
4 80mm case fans (2 in, 2out)
Power supply: Thermaltake Pure Power (420 W)

Temps: Cpu: ~38 C (max 45.50 C) and ~25 C resting (max 28 C)

Below are the normal resting rails according to Version 2.7 Hardware Doctor

Vcore: 1.65
Vcc: 2.75
VIO: 3.38
+5: 5.06
+12: 11.98
-12: -11.86
-5: -5.14
VSB: 5.02
3.3v Dual: 3.55

Under stress caused by Prime 95:
Vcore: 1.63-1.66
Vcc: 2.72-2.74
Vio: 3.36-3.38
+5: 5.06-5.08
+12: 11.86-11.98
-12: -11.86 (no variance)
-5: -5.14-5.19
VSB: 5.02 (no variance)
3.3v Dual: 3.55-3.57

Memory is currently set to (according to CPU-Z):
2,3,3,7

Ok I think that is all the info you might want. I have been trying to get it to run the FSB at 200 mhz (which I think would be 200x10.5) but I cant. I did get it to run with some stability at 180x12 (with the CPU interface enabled and Memory timings set to 2,2,2,6). I never changed the voltages (because I am unsure of what to change them to) or the FSB:DRAM ratio (again I don?t have a clue what this is or what it does). If someone could give me or tell me where to go to find a guide to how/what I should do to get it to run at 400 (FSB 200) I would appreciate it.

Edit to change the version from 1.2 to 1.1

The most likely limit is your rev 1.2 NF7. First, try raising the cpu core voltage to 1.75. and lower memory timings to 2.5-3-3-11. If that doesn't work, I would put a heatsink on the southbridge and an active cooler on the northbridge. Use thermal epoxy, or put thermal paste on and put a couple of dots of super glue on the corners of the chip. Leave the side off of the case and point a big fan in there, just to see if it's a heat issue. If that doesn't work, I doubt that you'll get it to 200.

It seems that alot of XP2700's won't do 200, because of the multiplier. Lower the multi to 11, and see what happens.

Ok, I will give the voltages and timings a try. I doubt it is a heat issue, but I will try the fan suggestion (just to see). Thanks for info.

Correction to my first post it is a NF7 V1.1 board. I am not sure if there is a difference between 1.1 and 1.2 but either way. The only question I have is what kind of HS do I need for the south bridge? And when you say "active" cooling on the North Bridge, what exactly does that mean? It already has a fan on it, but does it need a HS/F combo? Thanks

Ok I have tried to run it at 200x11 with vcore at 1.75 with no success. Although I did not get the usual errors loading XP 3dmark2k1 locked up on the first frame of the first test. It might be a heat issue (i touched the south tower after trying to run 3dmark2k1 and it was pretty warm). I will try to find a HS to put on it and maybe give it another try. Maybe it is just not possible to get this MOBO to run at that speed. If there are any other suggestions I would appreciate them. Thanks!

Yes, an active cooler is just a heatsink with a fan on it. I couldn't remember whether the earlier version boards had one or not. I do know that they were hit or miss to run at 200 bus, and I think many people modded those boards to run higher chipset voltage. I put a small active chipset cooler (I salvaged it from my old, dead KT133a board's northbridge) on the southbridge of my NF7 rev2, and it was a very tight fit because I was too lazy to trim the mounting tabs off. As for the question of what heatsink to use on your southbridge, it will have to be very short if you plan to use the PCI slot next to it. I just found out about this supplier the other day, which should have something that will fit:

cooling stuff

or

more cooling stuff

There are others... just do a search for "chipset cooler"
