What a f@$king let down :( I went and traded my ti4600 for a 9700 pro, it only cost me $20.00 using my replacement plan at compusa, so I was ready to pop the card in and start enjoying it, but no such luck.

I put the card in and plugged the power connector in, hooked up the monitor and got nothing when I powered up, the system fired up like it should but the monitor did not wake up, took the card out and checked everything, put it back in and still nothing, tried a few things and started getting pissed, so I decided to try it in another system, an ancient abit bh6 with a p3 700 and it started right up, I didnt let that system load windows because I was just testing the card.

So I try it in my system a few more times, then I put an old geforce card in my system and boot to reset the bios to defaults and try the 9700 again, still nothing :|

WTF! this sucks! any ideas? anybody have a 9700 pro on a p4s333? HELP!

I returned the radeon already, now I have store credit for the full amount I originally paid for my ti4600 six months ago, $366.00

Now I have to figure out what card to get, they might start getting pissed if I keep returning cards :D

Any chance that the 9900 PRO will be compatible with my mobo? from what I read, the 9700 pro had three revisions so far and if I could have found a rev3 card then it would have worked, so I am wondering if I should try a 9900 PRO when they come out?

just freeking wonderful, found this..............

Re: Radeon 9500pro and Asus P4S333 Compatible?
I have spoken with both ASUS and Sapphire and here's what they say about the problem.

Yes there is a compatibility problem between some ASUS P4 mobos with the SIS 645b chipset and the Radeon 9500/9700 cards.

It appears that the Radeon card chipsets 1.20 and 1.21 don't wont work and there's no fix. However, the 1.3 chipset does work. How you ensure that you're getting a 1.3 is beyond me.

If you really don't want to give up on the Radeons, and go for an Nvidia instead, you might consider going for the 9700, as that only shipped in the 1.1 and 1.3 versions. So chances are that the only version in stock now would be the 1.3. (that last bit of info actually came from a guy at Scan who supplied my 9500). I think I might just try the 9700...

The 9700 Pro does not like anything over 74.5MHz AGP. Since the P4S333 does not have an AGP/PCI lock, you'll need to keep the fsb at or below 149MHz.

Also, make sure to connect the 4-pin connector of the Power Extension Cable to the power supply connector and/or the Hard Drive connector.

The curse of the POS* mobo strikes again!

ATI Support: "How may I help you?"

ATI Support:"Don't worry, as long as you have an Intel, nVidia, or VIA chipset, we'll have you running in no time!"
User: "It's a SiS P4 board, they bench the fastest on Tom's Hardware!"

Seriously this is your best bet. Sell the P4S333 and get a new board for the P4. It's a well known incompatibility problem between the P4S333 and the 9700, many 9700's run very flaky on this board, if at all.

Once you get a new mobo, you'll definately be hailing the praises of the 9700.

Looking at the Albatron PX845PEV PRO at newegg right now, I am going to try calling them in the morning to see if they can ship one out tomorrow for delivery friday.

Wow. Going to go all noisey just to keep a SiS motherboard. Now I have seen everything.

This mobo has been great, overclocks like a champ, incredibly flexible memory ratios, rock stable, been running it flashed to p4s533 flashed it back to p4s333 to see if that was the problem with the 9700, I will be flashing back to p4s533 since I returned the 9700pos.

Yeah if might want to give your ears a break and try to find a good deal on a P4B533 or another board (intel chipset, preferably).

You retured the 9700 Pro because of a problen with a P4S333? That is like returning the new Corvette because the tires from your Hyundai wouldn't fit. ;)

Back away from the SiS.....keep going...turn slowly.....RUN!
Why you want to return a good card to keep a SiS motherboard is mindboggling, but in answer to your question I don't think the guys at ATI are working overtime to make sure the 9900 will be compatible with SiS motherboards.

A good card for you might be a GF FX non ultra. Will be a lot faster than a 4600, DX 9 compatible, and only a little slower than a 9700. (quiet too)

?? I have never had a problem with any nvidia card I have installed in this mobo and the 9700pro has a rev3 that apparently would work with it, as well as the fact that the performance of the p4s333 has been great, I just couldnt see tearing my system down just for a new video card.

I think we've reached a consensus in this thread:
Lots of people like 9700Pros, no one likes SiS motherboards.
I'm starting to think Slacker works for SiS. " This SiS board ownz all. WTF is the matter with ATI and their 9700 Pro?!" <heeheehee- Now I'll point the next guy who emails me his crummy 9700 doesn't work on our great motherboard at this thread as evidence the card is at fault! Not like we can change the mobos at this point, time for damage control!>
