Ok folks I recently replaced my Sony STR-G3 receiver with a Harmon Kardon AVR-230 receiver which is functioning quite nicely. The only downside is that the Sony was able to operate all of my components since it had a kind of built in learning remote. The HK does not and the universal remote that came with it is non too intuitive and I have only been able to get it to operate my DVD player, that's it. I'm willing to spend some money on a decent learning remote so that I have to switch between 4 different remotes :p. Please do not recommend those touch screen LCD remotes. They look nice and spiffy and have some nice functionality but I want something I can operate without having to look at it for the simple functions.

make sure your new receiver remote can't be programmed to work on your other periphs. Check the owners manual if you haven't already

I have, tried the codes listed for my other peripherals along with the search function. No go with either.

FW Deal (on radio version of above)

I have this remote and I love it. The display is very good (the entire remote lights up in a blue light), and it has a rubberized feel which is good. It's also programmable (there is a group on yahoo that explains how to do it, i have not programmed it).

You might also want to check out Here for remote reviews (be warned, some of the remotes there cost $$$)

Excellent advice.

We have been very happy with our Radio Shack 15-2116 which was only $29.99

Yup. That's the same remote both myself and a friend have. Works real good.
