I have a dual boot machine that has w98 and w2k on it. Recently screwed up w2k so badly it wouldn't boot. I have drive image 4.0 on the win98 partition(C drive) and had a fairly recent image of the D drive which contained w2k. For this reason, I wasn't too concerned about the crash, since I figured it would be fairly simple to correct by restoring the image file. Boy, how wrong can you get. I restored the image file and tried to boot to w2k and something really strange keeps happening. It acts like it is going to boot but then I get to the splash screen that says "Loading your personal settings" and then that is followed by a splash screen that says "Saving your settings" and then the other splash screen appears again("Loading your personal settings&quot😉 and the two screens just start blinking back and forth between each other in rapid succession. Nothing else happens. The machine just keeps flashing the two screens!!!

I checked the image file and it was reported as OK, so I don't think that is the problem. Is there something I missed in the procedure? What does the master boot record do and could it be part of this problem. I really don't want to do a fresh install, so any and all help will be appreciated.

The machine specs are in my signature.

well, i am not familiar with imagining your drive with a dual boot sys, although im sure it should be fine, however, have you tried to perhaps try to repair win2k with F8? or boot into safe mode?
