Need some help finding roofing pictures....

I just bought a house and will be doing some major renovations to many parts of it over the next few months before and after I move in. One of the major areas that needs help is the back porch. There's already a concrete patio with an aluminum cover, but the aluminum has to go. Can someone help me figure out the best way to design a shingled roof to fully cover this area? I'm wanting to build a roof that covers the area between sides 3 and 1. The problem is, a flat roof won't provide enough runoff because of the size of the roof. I'd like it to have a mediterranian style when I shingle it to match the rest of the house, but I can't find a picture of a porch cover that will work. Any suggestions? If I put a pitch on the roof, runoff will create a channel between the existing roof and the new one....I would imagine, this would cause problems. What would a builder do here? Thanks.

Minimum slope of a shingled roof is 3/12. Any less than that and water will wick under each course of shingles. If you are going with a membrane roof, 1/4" per foot is enough pitch.

That "Channel" that you speak of is not bad. Many homes have them. They are called "Valleys". They are not expecialy bad, but one running in that direction would be unsightly, but if done right would cause no issues.

That's sort of a relief. I'd like to find some pics of some similar roofing scenarios to do something that's at least appealing. The home is stucko so I'd like to do spanish tiles rather than asphault shingles, but I don't think my budget will allow for that. I just need a roof that is the same height and one that provides a link to some new electric service that I"m going to install. (will be screening in porch eventually and installing ceiling fans for parties.

Those tiles would cost more than your entire house probably. Asphalt shingles cost about $30 for a square, while the clay tiles you are thinking of cost about $300 a square, and weigh a good 600lbs per square, which is nearly five times what an asphalt shingled square weighs.

A clay roof qould require that your entire roof be taken off and rebuilt because of weight issues. Most residential roofs are made to bear 20lbs of load per foot. (roofing material + snow load) You are taking up half of that with a clay tile roof.

They do make concrete/concrete fiber tiles that look like the clay ones, weigh less, and cost less ($100 or so a square IIRC.).

If you have a standard home (what the hell is standard anyway) expect somewhere around 10 squares, so $6000 for tile + rebuild, 1000 for concrete/fiber, and $300 for asphalt if you are going to do your whole roof, which you should if you are going to do this project. Of course, these are only estimates of the shingles, not nails, felt, caulk, replacement decking, flashing, fachia, etc.

BTW, a square is 100 sq/ft.
