I just bought a house and will be doing some major renovations to many parts of it over the next few months before and after I move in. One of the major areas that needs help is the back porch. There's already a concrete patio with an aluminum cover, but the aluminum has to go. Can someone help me figure out the best way to design a shingled roof to fully cover this area? Look at the attached diagram: Here
I'm wanting to build a roof that covers the area between sides 3 and 1. The problem is, a flat roof won't provide enough runoff because of the size of the roof. I'd like it to have a mediterranian style when I shingle it to match the rest of the house, but I can't find a picture of a porch cover that will work. Any suggestions? If I put a pitch on the roof, runoff will create a channel between the existing roof and the new one....I would imagine, this would cause problems. What would a builder do here? Thanks.
