I'm going to be starting to teach this fall. My wardrobe is a bunch of shorts and cargo pants and faded shirts/ some slacks. . .

I've never owned a suit, so I don't know anything about it.

I know what kind of look I'd like to portray - do you guys know when you see someone with a suit coat on, but it looks casual (not a 'crisp blazer' kinda thing). . . and the shirt is not a button up, but just a casual regular shirt - no tie.

It is casual, yet dressy, always liked the look.

My problem is looking around, I don't see suits like this sold. They are always portrayed with button up shirts, ties, etc.

Another problem is I am big and tall (6'3 320lbs).
Another (yet another) problem is that I am on a budget :p

Need fashion advice :p

Help! (I've been blue collar most of my life). . .

um, you don't buy suits with the shirts. you can wear whatever shirt you want under a suit.

go buy some of the following.
-pleated and unpleated pants
-creased and uncreased pants
-blue and brown sport jacket
-bunch of button down shirts

you'll be fine with that. if you need ideas of what to wear without looking retarded/outdated, just thumb through some men's magazines or hell, even a JC Penney catalogue. you'll get the idea.

If you have any discount retailers around you like Nordstroms Rack, Off 5th or Last Call, they would be a place to look for decent to high quality suits w/o spending a fortune. That being said, these are suits for teaching right? If it's a primary special occasion suit, I would personally be looking around the 500-1000 range, but it's just up to you what your budget is.

Ever considered eBay? :)

I believe what you're looking for is called a sport coat.

You could go all out and get tweed with the elbow patches - might as well start smoking a pipe while you're at it.

No, it is not that, I mean all the young guys wear these. I've seen Pitt, Will Smith, etc wear this stuff - it is not the weird old man suits.

just go to Men's Wearhouse or S&K and browse through the sports coats. the salesmen work on commission so they can be kinda pushy, but they will fit you right. check it out.

You cannot buy a suit online. You need to have suits tailored to fit. Pants taken in, cuffs on the bottom, jacket sleeves lengthed or shortend, etc. In terms of Dockers and what not, you can go to any online clothing retailer. However, for that kind of stuff check out Marshalls or T.J. Maxx. Those two stores are gold mines for that kind of stuff. I have gotten plenty of Ralph Lauren, DKNY, Calvin Klein, etc there for next to nothing. They have standard professional casual as well.

In terms of wanting to have the simple casual suit look. Any dark blue or black suit will work with practically any collared shirt under it.

Good luck!

I too am 6'3" and used to weigh in at 290 so I know where your at.

yes, just go get some sports coats. buying suits online is impossible. get the family together, hook the horses up to the wagon, and head into town!

You need to head over to the Men's Wearhouse. If you want to spend more $$$, head over to Macy's Men's store and get whatever suits they have on sale. I've bought a couple Hugo Boss suits from Macy's on sale and they've been great.
