I'm upgrading my system and need to decide which CPU to get.
I will be definitely getting an ASRock Dual because I still don't want to change my ATI 9800Pro.
AMD Athlon 64 3700+
AMD Athlon 64 x2 3800+
AMD Opteron 165
I'm trying to look into the future...but also keeping budget in mind...don't want to go beserk.
3700+ being a single core is the least future proof of the 3 but has the most attractive price.
The 3800+ is in the middle and of course the Opteron 165 is on the top.
Opteron 165 will probably have the best resale value.
What do I do with my computer? A lot of excel, VBA, MS Office, Photoshop ... email, internet blah blah and some gaming FPS and RTS...I dont do the latest games.
All of these processors can be overcloked (never done it though) for what I've read.
The opteron being the best for that purpose.
I have bought 2 AMD Athlon 64 x2 4400+ that I will but for sale and one x2 3800+.
With the proceeds of that I can help myself purchase my own cpu.
So thinking I can make around 150 from these 3 cpus, I can sell my current mobo and cpu for around 140...I have 290 to play with and I can put a max of 110 more.
Total budget = 400 for Mobo and CPU.
What would go the best with the AsRock mobo with some possible overclocking? At the beginning I was set on the 3700+, now I'm kinda of set on the x2 3800+ and definitely hesitating on the opteron.
I probably have answered my own questions but would like to hear suggestions...and other opinions.
