I was given a FIC SD-11 MB (actually three of them, one of the boards is suppose to be good, the other two may or may not be). So I thought I'd put together a system.

Anyway, my question....it's a "Slot A" board, what are my choices of processors for this???? I don't see/hear much about "slot A" processors.

What would you recommend running on this???? Or can you please point me to a place where I can research/learn what my CPU options are for this board????

Thanks, and your kindness is appreciated by this Rookie!!!! :)

Duuhhhhhhh!!!! Please excuse the stupidity of my question!!! I stumbled around a few sites and quickly realized my options, Durons and Athlons!!!!!! Geezzzz, it's really a shame to waste so many brain cells!!!!

I think I answered my own question. If I need further clarification, please fire away!!!

AMD Athlon Processors are designed to run on Slot A motherboards. This leaves you with a choice of 500Mhz to 1Ghz, depending on your budget.

A little more detail for you:

The Athlon or Athlon classic as many are calling it now - this is not the Thunderbird or Duron. The Athlon classic is a slot a processor - as mentioned, it offers speeds from 500 MHz to 1 GHz.

I would suggest either buying a 700-800 MHz processor & Golden Fingers Devide (GFD) and overclocking, or buying a modified processor - here is a good site http://ocz.safeshopper.com/29/cat29.htm

The nice thing about buying the modded CPU - you don't have to open the case to overclock the processor, that's already been done & it's cheap: $170.00 for a 900 MHz or $210.00 (USD) for a GHz.

I've bought at this site - they did a nice job for me. :D
