Need some HDTV advice

I'm going to buy an HDTV very soon, not sure which to buy exactly, but i've got my eye on this one - Looks like a good deal, but shipping would probably cost a lot, and i don't know if they Tax AZ residents. Plus it takes them 10-15 buisness days to ship...that seems like a long time. I wouldn't be surprised it if arrived with some dead pixels too, then that would be a pain.

Any other good HDTV deals out there? I have a lot of credit at Costco so i would have to buy there i think. Credit also works online at Costco.com.

My budget would be around $1500, under $2000 for sure. What should i get? That Sceptre TV looks good, but not sure if shipping/tax would kill it or not.

Edit: Shipping for the TV would be $70 and Tax would be $133 🙁 - That does kinda kill it.

Of course they charge sales tax since CostCo has a physical presence in AZ (warehouses), why wouldn't they?

It's still a killer deal for a very nice 37" HDTV LCD.

After thinking about it for a bit it's still a real nice price, so i'm still really considering this one.

Why not just do a local pickup?

Does that save on shipping? They don't have this TV in-store by the way.

How far away are you going to be from the display?

Too far for High Definition... you need at least a 50" at that distance if you want the benefits of an HDTV

I sit 8 -9 ft from my 50" DLP HDTV

depends on many factors really...

720p and 1080i should still be quite breathtaking assumign 20/20 or better....

1080p however, requires the UBER ultra mega massive screen or inch-limited viewing distance

What do you want me to go blind 😛? I don't wanna sit too close. 10ft isn't that much really.

You wont go blind. 50" @ 10 feet would be small for our house.

I sit about 15 ft from my 100" FP screen, and sometimes have the urge to move closer to get the full theatre effect. We were about 8-10 feet from our old 52" SDTV RP, and it was about right.

Some people aren't looking for the "full theatre effect," though. For myself, I just want a nice, crisp 16:9 TV.

Very likely that i will order tomorrow, but have a few dilemmas. For one, if i buy the spectre (or likely any other TV) i won't have a place to put it, i got a big entertainment stand and it won't fit anything very big. Also, if i order the Spectre, it likely won't be here in time for the superbowl...that sucks 😛.

So you guys are saying i should get a bigger TV? If so what should i get? I'm basically looking for a 'hot deal', i always am, actually 🙂

You might want to wait on buying a 1080p display. There is no guarantee that Blu-Ray/HD-DVD protected content will work right on the early 1080p HDMI inputs.

The only difference between 1080i and 1080p is that one is interlaced and one is progressive. Most monitors will convert the interlaced signal to progressive anyways.

The viewing distance is a personal taste issue. Some people like to sit in the front row, some like sitting in the back.

I got nearly $1000 in cred for returning another HDTV i won, so i'll almost surely buy whatever TV i get from costco.

Argh. I wish there was a clear choice on what to get. The Sceptre one seems kinda small, but it's probably the best value. Also started looking at this one though it's probably a bit too pricey for me. Also looked at this one: here - Kinda nice that they have it in-store, so i could buy tomorrow if i wanted and not have to wait a month to get it. Price seems ok too. Very slightly considering this as well What to do what to do...

I am talking about physically being apble to appreciate the difference....

and Interlaced vs. progressive SOURCE makes a big difference.

As others have mentioned, 37" IMO is a little too small for 10-12 feet.

I had a 30" at 8-9 feet and it was tiny. I really missed out on some details. Granted though, my eyesight is crap, but even with glasses, too small for me.

I now have a 46" Toshiba DLP at the same distance and its a WORLD of difference. I now can watch TV w/o my glasses and i don't feel like the tv is taking up too much room. For me, the perfect size.

Here's a pic i took about a week ago when i was testing out my new 18-200 lens in a dark room, http://www.aphexii.com/pics/entcenter.jpg
