Per subject... Building a new 7800x3d and 4090 system. I've got 1 4TB drive and will probably never have a SATA, etc... on this PC. Is it standard practice to ONLY use the power cables one needs for the cleanest installation AND to give the power to the ports where "it counts", or is it best to hook up all power to the MoBo possible for best system stability?

Looking for advice based on past experience.

Use all of the cables required for the motherboard. This should be the 24 pin and 1-2 EPS 8 pin (you may have 1-8 pin, 1-8 pin + 1-4 pin, or 2-8 pin). There are no other cables to connect from the power supply to the motherboard. The SATA cables would go straight to the drives anyway.

Agreed. Mobo cables, (DO NOT skip the 12v EPS cables whether one 8 pin (4+4) 1 8 pin (4+4) and one 4 pin, or two 8 pin (4+4) cables. (They are NOT the same as the PCI-E cables used for your video card.)

Then, the PCI-E cables appropriate for your video card. HDD's, 2.5" SSD's use the SATA power and data cables...if needed. Otherwise...don't connect them to the PSU. (presuming a fully modular unit)

I always leave a SATA cable plugged into the power supply just in case I decide I want something added later (presuming a fully modular supply).

If it has a power socket for a plug, plug it in. Is a cable or two being seen, really going to make you lose sleep?
