Need some good, yet cheap speakers

I've had my existing speakers for roughly 3 years and frankly their shoddy quality is beginning to show. The right speaker is starting to get a rattle to it in the mid-range and I think the left one is going to follow it soon. My rear speakers are just fine since I'm just running my rear channel through my old (circa 1979, but good quality) stereo. Right now all I need are two good front channel speakers, as well as maybe a center channel speaker. Not that I'd mind a full 5.1 system if the price was right. One thing though: my current computer configuration is already causing a fire hazard as far as electrical outlets are concerned. I've seen USB-powered speakers but I'm skeptical as to their quality. Any thoughts to that regard would be appreciated as well.

My budget... hrm.... I think the most I'd spend on a system at the moment is about $100... but that would just be for what I buy now. It could be just a 3.1 system, could be a 5.1, whatever. I defintely need a good center channel speaker. As for what I'm using them for, mostly for gaming, Unreal II, so on and so forth, as well as watching DVDs on my comp. That's mostly it.
