The sony fontopia earbuds look nice, but it seems that all of them have the problem with the wire breaking down after about a year of use. That's no good for me because they will see heavy use...

Any other ideas?

Be careful with earbuds and volume level, very easy to damage your ears so I've read. Chances of damage increase during exercise as well; blood flow moves away from the ears during exercise when your heart rate increases.

Panasonic RP-HJE50. Excellent inexpensive canalphones. Better than the Sony Fontopia phones I think. Koss Spark Plugs are also good for the price.

KSC-75. 'Nuff said. I own a pair of the 201's suggested above and the 75's put them to shame.

The phontopia 71 (black ones with extension) seem to have held up better (until I stepped on them :( ) than the white 51s I have now. But yes, Sony's wiring really sucks. I had a lot of Sonys where wiring either got loose or hard. They gotta hire some material scientists to get the situation fixed.
