I am starting to look into getting a nice shaft fit for my golf game. I am checking the shaft manufacturing sites and coming up more confused on what to buy. Are there any nice shaft comparison sites out there, I am getting so frustrated! Thanks!

Don't look on the internet for this stuff. You have to try the shafts out. Saying you need a 90 flex and KNOWING you need a 90 flex are two different things.

Yep, you can't even think of doing a shaft fitting by internet. There are hundreds of good shafts in a variety of flexes and what works best for one 90mph swing could be the absolute worst choice for a different 90mph swing. Trying to buy a shaft without a good fitting is like trying to buy a pair of shoes without knowing your size. Find a clubfitter in your area and have him take a look at your swing. 5 minutes with a qualified professional will be more helpful than hundreds of hours of research.

Yes I realize the comments just had to come and I realize that you can't shop for shafts online but you can compare. I am unfamiliar with the companies and what they have to offer. I just want to know what shafts from what companies I should be comparing. I have an extremely high swing speed but I received a great deal on a low loft club. I want to get the loft angle up without sacrificing shaft flex. Yes these needs don't usually go together but if there is a nice side by side comparison site that anyone knows of that would be great!

yes i totally agree....and you have to get all your clubs customized..those stupid ads for clubs don't mean crap if ur not properly fitted for clubs...all pga players have customized clubs...just in case u don't do that, do ur comfy stance, and see if the club head sits perfectly alligned against the floor,...don't change ur position for the club..have the club position itself for u..that's why it's better customized..no matter what brand....

.i have the original ping-eye's from the early 90's...copper ping eyes baby...u won't find these classics anywhere...these clubs are better than the newer clubs because they have the square grooves, and not the traingle grooves....customized from a professsional, bent, custom grips, and shafted..all sized up just for me.....and i just make my stance, it feels comfy..it's perfect..and the ball flies off perfectly..w/ the steel...steel is awesome for irons...i'm generally a power hitter....so steel is for me..but steel is also great for slow swing speeds.....

personally...i prefer steel..it's more rigid, and i can feel the club a lot better..i can feel the ball a lot better...graphite sucks imho...because you have little control in long shots w/ your long irons...cuz one mistake w/ graphite..it's over...ur gonna slice that sucker......of course i use graphite for woods....as for irons...if i don't hit it well, i can really feel that i didn't hit it..i mean it hurts like a madman since there's no absorption and stuff...but i can tell what needs to be corrected for my next swing....

as for woods...i have a flex 100 stock from calaway....the store i got it from had many many options...from 8 deg to 12 deg great big bertha's w/ various stock shafts......w/ a 9 deg. great big bertha...when i was younger in my teens, i used to smack that sucker to distances up to 330 yards...not lying......for woods, each wood u have to find out for yourself...go to a huge golf shop, and see which one is more comfy and stuff...which club can you "feel" that can really fly off the tee....

cliff notes: get steel for irons, see which clubs "feel" great on stancing up...then u'll have the mentality that u'll really can make the ball fly....

What's your swing speed and what's the low loft head you have picked out? If you're really looking at XX-XXX shafts I assume that you're looking for long drive contest equipment? That limits your options greatly as many companies don't do shafts that stiff. If so, check out Accuflex, they have a nice line of shafts in that range. The Assassin and Extreme LD are popular.

As for decent sites:

Not looking for LD stuff. Just want something that feels extremely stiff but might give me a bit of a launch. The club I selected isn't that lofty, just an 8*, but I want a bit more launch. Looking at the site the XXX or XX Penley ETA promotes what I need.

Okay, if you're looking for an XX-XXX shaft for everyday play you're beyond my area of expertise. I don't have any experience with flexes like that for anything beyond long drive and the shafts in that range are generally made especially for LD. Try contacting Horsepower Golf, they specialize in LD stuff, but would definitely have the knowledge to help suggest something that would fit your needs.

um, if the club is "perfectly alligned (sic)" with the ground, it does not fit you. the toe has to be in the air at address. without exception. i swear to God, i see more sh!tty advice about golf than anything else on this board. as for your genealized statement about graphite vs. steel, maybe you should hit something with a decent graphite shaft in it, and then form an opinion. all in all, the worst thought out, most uninformed post i've ever seen. please, don't give anymore golf advice, or advice about equipment. you have zero knowledge of the topic.

Yeah, the problem is I think I need a flex stiffer than the crap you see in stock clubs. I hit those clubs and we got slice city when my natural ball flight is a slight draw. I know it's got to be the shaft. Everything I have tried in stores seems too whippy and most custom clubs with aftermarket shafts you have to buy before you can try them since they are specially fitted. I am making a trip to the local club maker tomorrow and I will see what I find.

The small nets they have in the mom and pop club fitters just don't tell you anything. Hopefully I will figure something out.

Well, those flexes are generally for swing speeds of 130mph+, which is beyond just about anyone but long drive contestants. John Daly and Hank Kuehne swing around 130 and I think they're both playing XX, but even guys like Tiger, Mickelson and Els are only in 'X' or maybe slightly tipped 'x' with swing speeds in the mid 120's. Are you that hard a swinger? Can you go out and blow your driver past the best tour pros? If yes, then you probably do need some sort of XX-XXX 50" LD club cut down to 45" for everyday play. But if you jump into a shaft like that with 115-120 mph swing speed it would be like swinging a telephone pole, you'll never get the thing to load and would hit 100 balls low and right before throwing it away.

And bear in mind that the crap stock shafts play at least a full flex softer and 2 degrees of torque more than listed. So you could be too strong to play a stock 'X' flex shaft and only need to be in an 'S' in a good aftermarket shaft. I can't hit a stock 'X' flex, it's like swinging a piece of licorice, but I'm very comfortable in an 'X' in a good aftermarket shaft and can even hit some 'S' aftermarket shafts well if they run on the stiff side like Apache 65N's or Grafalloy Blue's. You definitely need some time with a fitter and hopefully a launch monitor, XX and above is only for a few people on earth
