Need some free scanner software for Win2k

I've got a Brother MFC-8300 here at the shop that I'd like to use as a scanner on one of the machines. The only problem is that it didn't come with any software, and the only stuff Brother has for sale is for Win98. I was able to get it working on another machine using WinXP's built-in scanner software, but this machine is running 2k. (No, I can't upgrade it) I don't expect it to be doing heavy scanning or anything, but I'd like the software to be at least somewhat user-friendly and, more importantly, free. Anybody have any ideas?

There are drivers from brother here for windows 2000 parallel and usb ports. . .for this printer.

good luck 🙂
Already got the drivers. It works as a printer just fine, only it has no scanner software...

...or didn't. See, as it turns out, Win2k does have built-in scanning support. You've probably seen it dozens of times and never used it. It's Microsoft Imaging, believe it or not. Yeah, I had no idea either, but its primary use is interfacing with scanners and digital cameras. Crazy, huh?

For free scanning, I've always been happy with irfanview, which is also everybody's favorite image viewer. Just go file->acquire and you're good to go. You can than easily crop and manipulate colors and such if desired
