Need some expert BF2 stinger/IGLA advice

Just what is the best technique to using the Stinger/IGLA missiles in BF2 ?

Do you lead your target?
Do you wait until they fly away from you, or towards you, or sideways?
Do you wait until they fly in a straight line and avoid firing while in a turn?

Jump out and find a jeep with a .50 cal. The missles don't work all that great, but if you feel like using them, wait until your target is moving away and has already popped flares.

The Stinger and IGLA missles are crap. For me it is mostly luck my taking town a plane. You have a much better chance of taking down a heli.

and wait for patch 1.2 as it will reduce the armour on planes and increase accuracy of the Stingers and IGLAs

the only remote way to take down a plane is if the plane dude is a total noob and circles around and around above you, or if the pilot is attempting to strafe your arse, but fails, and you succeed in popping 2 missiles into him as he's coming down on you.

They say it's being addressed for the new patch. Last time I sat in a stinger I walked away with -23 points, lesson learned. heh.

If worse comes to worse and you have to use one, first make sure no teammates are flying nearby. 99% of the time the missles will hit them instead. The best way to shoot down hostile aircraft is if their tail is facing you (meaning they are going away from you). Missles like to look onto engine exhausts. Obviously wait for them to pop flares before firing. Shoot your 2nd missle immediatly after the 1st hits, the quicker you run out is the quicker you'll reload if neccessary. The minigun is the best option of all the AA guns, when you use the Phalanx gun on the Essex carrier, be sure to lead your target. If people find out you're there, use the 2nd gun over by the radar and UAV.
