Need some earbuds for small ear canals...

I've searched the forums and Google, and haven't been able to come up with anything very current. Basically I'm just looking for some earbuds that don't fall out when I use them. They need to be able to stand up to some abuse, as I'd like to be able to wear them at the gym. I've tried the pair that comes with a Sansa Clip and an iPod, as well as a pair of Skullcandy ones... but they don't stay in for very long, especially when I'm running.

If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate it.

I don't think any will stay in very well when you're doing something active like running. You're better off getting a pair that either has a behind-the-head frame, or around-the-ear clips to keep the buds stationary.

How about the ones that use expando-foam stuff (my own term) and that hook over your ears? They use that foam stuff that is used for noise safety. My set of Shure earphones came with orange foam that you roll across your fingers to make it small, put it in and then it expands. They are very small when you put them in and then expand and thus should fit everyone.

I don't use them very often because I literally can't hear a single thing outside with them on - and there are very few activities that I do where I want to block out everything... even on an airplane it's nice to hear people... like when they offer you a drink or something. But I've tried them when I'm rowing and they stay in really really well when the wires are run over the top of my ears.

Because every ear is different, the Fit Kit includes three sizes (S, M, L) of the Flex and Black Foam Sleeves. Experiment with the size and style that creates the best fit for you—a good seal is key to optimizing sound isolation and bass response as well as maximizing comfort during extended wear.

The "black foam" sleeves are what I'm talking about.

I have the JVC marshmallows and find that they do a good job of staying in

Also my Shure E4c came with a ton of different ear pieces
these stay in quite well

you're searching for tips. you can put pretty much any tips on any IEMs... how much you wanna pay for IEMs? that's the better question. usually head-fi guys can point you to the right tips. i just stick to my stock UE tips.

Ultimate Ears Metro.Fi 220s, sound awesome and stay in pretty well. I just tested this out by doing 10 jumping jacks. Not exactly a 1 mile run, but they didn't even come close to falling out. BB has them on sale right now for $60.

Most of the time if you find the right cheap earphone you can plug in the fancy tips from fancy earphones

Well the tips from fancy ones aren't necessarily better. My friend's Shure SE530 ($300+) were used with Vmoda Vibes?? Those are like $70 earbuds MSRP or something, so probably cheaper on the market.

It just depends what you like. I believe most tips are crosscompatible. Even though they aren't made to be, the snap on mechanism is usually similar. I can throw my Sony Fontopia tips onto my UE Triple Fis and vice versa. ($20 vs $300 earbuds)

Thanks for the help everyone. I went ahead and started with a pair of JVC Marshmallows for ~$15 from Amazon, and I'm glad I did. They work great for my needs, sound decent, and most importantly fit.

Thats good, if they are too heavy on the bass remove the paper filter sounds WAY better IMO look up JVC Marshmallow Hacks

The ones that I found to stay in my ears the best were Koss Sparkplugs. Great sound as well. One word of caution: they break very easily.
