I'm attempting to repair my sisters computer over the phone. The system hangs on boot with a black screen in both normal and safe mode. Last known good configuration fails to fix the problem. I ran chkdsk /p at the command prompt and no errors are found. Norton ghost is installed but for some reason the norton console says the latest backup is almost 60 days ago which means much needed data would be lost so I'm looking for other options before I attempt restoring to such a late date.
Ghost SHOULD have been backing up the system every couple of days at least that's the way set it up when I originally built the system but for some reason it doesn't show any newer backups.
I was reading about the BootCfg /Rebuild command but I am unfamiliar with it and not sure if it's safe. I'm looking for any ideas/input to help get this system back online without having to restore it to such a late date.
