Need some dimensions of a U2-UFO.

I cant remember which user has this case, but i need the dimensions on the optical drive bay area, not including what is under the drive bays, just the big open free space.

I have decided to get phase change, getting a special unit built for me. And i have a choice of pretty much two cases. The U2 series of cases or the V-2000 series.

Thanks.

vindsl has it, also tell us more about the phase change...

tyler... make sure your buidler is very reputable.

I would highly recomend nol aka noob of l33t over at xs forums. Only problem is he's majorly backuped up.

Stay away from jinu112 right now. He's going though some financial problems and is back ordered. I think he stoped taking orders right now as we speak.

But i have a U2-UFO now, and it will fit on the right compartment on the floor. The cold plate needs to be long enough to reach the top of the mobo and come over and on top of the cpu.

i had the thing all planned out with nol. But i dont see the point in it anymore because penryn is honestly suposed to run cooler. Hence, i should be able to use TEC's instead.

MAke sure you study. Phase is something different from water. You cant RMA anything once you phase prep it. So make sure you know what your getting into. And be prepared to lose some expensive parts the first time around. Most people dont, but i always have a heart where somethign is gonna break when i try out something new. It always saves me from disappointment when something does break, aand i dont give up. 😛

Good luck tyler. Cant wait to see this.

BTW.. i havent started building my UFO yet. But its gonna be the most badass build case and cooling forum will see.

oh another thing on this edit: make sure you tell the buidler to tune it for a quad core. Theres no point in phasing unless you get it tuned for a quadcore.

here's some of jinu's work. This was what nol and i thought would be the best if he was to build me something. As i said i highly recomend nol as your builder.

Just out of curiosity, how much does a phase change cooler cost? and how much is it when custom made?

Yea aigo it is going to be NOL. Already talked to him, got all the stuff planed out. And thankd for those pics, they will help allot. And there will be water cooling as well, a PA120.3 to cool the video cards, most likely going to be 2 8800GTS's since i already have one of them....... It will be tunned for quad, he going to tune it to cool 300watts at -30. I was going to make it my self, since i know how to do it, but i would have extra parts that i would have no use for. And for "avi85" it is cheaper to get it custom, mine will be around $700-$800, takes a month to build it. Since it takes allot of tuning to get it working correctly. But i will not include the SS case, so mine will be $150 cheaper. Mine will also have the new Chilly1 evaporator, temp guage, and a couple extras here and there.

Any more questions?

And anyone have the answer to my question?

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD LUCK!

according to nol, he was about 4-5months backuped. 😀

OT:
i just realized you are the one i bought my WD500 giger from. 😛

it has lots and lots of porn..err i mean movies... yeah.. 😛 ahahhaha.. just find it a trip that the one i helped out a lot in h2o cooling was the same person i bought a spare 500giger from.

I suppose it depends on which version of the U2-UFO you buy...

I own a MM Opti-1203 U2-UFO (2 x 5 drive optical bays, e.g. room for 10 optical drives).

Each one of these drive bays is (internal measurements):

5 7/8" wide
8 3/8" high
6 1/4" deep 😉

Thanks, but wrong info. I meant what is behind them. Not the bays them selfs. I need to know what room i will have for a phase unit.

He told me he was about a month backed up. And cleared a spot for me. Yep thats right on that hdd, i forgot about that. Full of porn, huh? I bet so, movies of porn......LMAO. I will be upgrading my whole rig. Depending on the prices of penryn, if its to expensive i will just go for the QX6600. This upgrade will cost me about $2500+, $1200 in just the case and cooling.

From the rear edge of the optical drive bays, to the back wall, is exactly 12", in my Opti-1203 case.

You know, you can remove those drive bays altogether, right?

Either that, or just take 'em out and modify them -- only got 6 thumbscrews holding them in place... 😉

*edit*

Okay, I reread the thread...

Obviously, you need a mobo, PSU, and drive bays, and you could do all this on the left side of my case.

On the right side of the case, you could basically unscrew the internal/external bays, and effectively 'gut' it.

That would roughly give you a space of 7 1/2" W x 18" H x 18" D... about the same size as a totally empty and gutted (normal-sized) mid-tower case! 😀

Thanks man. I am debating cases. Most likely going to be the U2-UFO, i want the mobo side to be clean, and seen. The other side will house all the wires.

DAMN STRAIGHT! Mine might be the leader of the clan......... 🙂 Am i going to be the first with phase? This will be like 2 months down the road though. Since i have to come up with the money, and NOL is booked right now. Then he has to build it, which takes a month. He does have a life so ill let him take his time. NO MORE THAN MONTH. I'm already impatient.

Well ill have one T-rex!! Beat that.
Bwahahahaha! 😀

That's what I LOVE about MM cases!

The only limit is your imagination...

Buy a U2-UFO and all of a sudden you feel invincible!

Quite a good feeling for a measly $400, yes? 😉

Yea a big price to pay. But when you need a big case to house your computer, its a small price to pay if you need it. Which i will. I'm not going to get the best system that is on the market, i know i will most likely have a QX6600, don't know which mobo yet, 150gb raptor, and a decent sound card. That will be the main upgrade, couple small parts here and there. But all in all its going to be a killer system.
