I?m finally upgrading to dual-core. I?m replacing a FX-55@2.9. Just ordered a retail AMD Opteron 165 Denmark 1.8GHz for my old 939 m/b. My goal is to get the Opty 165 to at least 2.8 on air using one of these heatsink combos. Should I use the retail heatsink/fan that came with the Opteron? I?ve heard from several sources the Opty h/s fans are quite good. Or?should I use what I?ve been using on my 939?

Which is a ZALMAN CNPS7700-CU (all copper) http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16835118115

One of my friends has an opty with that same heatsink, it works really well. Unless you have another use for the Zalman or it's in bad shape, use it. The zalman is copper, so it will probably perform much better than the stock HSF. If nothing else, it's much quieter and nicer looking :).

Agreed, the Zalman is very big and heavy (all copper) but very quiet. Yeah, that's the direction I was leaning. But, if I'm going to have any chance of getting 2.8 out of this cpu I wanted some confirmation.
