Need some cheap speakers...

Hello, I am trying to put together a home theater type system for really cheap in my dorm. I need to get some 5.0 or 5.1 speakers but don't know which ones are good and cheap. I am probably going to get used ones I just don't know what to look for. I've been browsing craigslist and ebay but still don't know whats a good deal. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks
 
$50 for a whole set. Can someone answer my question about the z-5300's? Is it possible to connect them to the HK receiver?

In order to set the entire 5.1 z-5300 set up so you'd get true surround and not just "matrix" on the 5300 control pod, you'd need to have a receiver that can do 5.1 pre-out. The receiver would not be using its own amps to power the speaker or sub in that case.

If you wanted to just hook up the satellite speakers so it, you need some compatable ends. You could buy some converters or some other type of cable and chop off the ends that you don't want and leave bare wire... or if you can see that the z-5300 speaker wires are two conductors up until the RCA end, you could cut the RCA end off and then connect directly to that.

I don't think you should really bother with either though.

The HK with a 5.0 set of Logitech sats isn't going to sound as good as the 5.1 set powered by the sub... and if you do hook the sub up as well and can set the crossover to an appropriate setting, it's going to end up sounding just about the same. It will give you some more connectivity options for inputs, but that's about it.

If you want something that sounds better, wait until you can afford something better, or sell the z-5300s and use that + your $50 to pick up one pair of decent bookshelf speakers. You're not going to find anything decent in the way of a 5.1 set for $50.

You can get an entry level pair of bookshelf speakers for that much, but that's about it.
 
x-530 on buy.com, should be around $40-$50

the x-230 are already amazing....right now i am plugging my GF's set as rear-speakers and mine as front....but then for not even $50 you can get
the real 5.1 system 🙂 And for the price unbeatable.
