I need a cheap set a 2.0 powered speakers that are both cheap (under $25) and LOUD. I don't really care how they sound, as they're going to be put in a noisy environment. I don't have room for a subwoofer, though, and I'd prefer models that aren't USB powered.

Does anyone have any advice as to what model to choose?

Can you wear headphones? At $20 in a noisy environment, you'd probably do better to get some noise-canceling or circumaural headphones like these.

These speakers are for a kitchen, to let the workers know that food is ready. The instructions are simple beeps and buzzers, so they don't need to sound good at all. They just need to be LOUD :)

OK, I think I've found it.

Not USB-powered...check!
Extremely loud...check!
Under $20...check!

.. or:

http://www.amazon.com/PHSP4-6-Inch-I...3634497&sr=1-7

plus

http://www.amazon.com/Pyle-PCA1-15-W.../ref=pd_cp_e_0

.. your budget isn't going to provide what you want but the items above combined for $42.xx shipped should do the trick (a small 2 channel amplifier and a paging horn with 100 db @ 1 meter/1 watt sensitivity should wake some people up). You could add a second horn to the above setup for an extra $15 if you want even more noise but this is about as good as you are going to get on the cheap for loud audio of the sort you're after.

I like this idea... thanks!
