Need some basic Linux XWindows/KDE help

Basically, how do you free all the memory once you exit XWindows and get back to the commandline console? Whenever I exit KDE and look at all the processes, i still see a lot of KDE processes still running after I exit KDE. They take quite a bit of memory if I may add (38M used at startup console to over 200M+ used after I exit KDE). Is there any simple way to just kill all the KDE processes?

On a side note, is there anything like the Windows Task manager for KDE?
