hi
its been ages since the last time i have had a chance to overclock a system way back in teh days of DOS 4.x and Windows 3.0 just barely peaking its head out.
so i forgot everything about how to do it.
now i got a new computer, which should kick some serious butt, but apparently doesnt. best score i have been able to get on the 3d mark 03 is about 5200. i have been told i should be able to easily pass 7k, maybe aproach or even hit 8k.
so i would like to know some detailed info, on how to overclock the CPU and teh video card. also, is tehre anyway to overclock the FSB ? or perhaps mine isnt set to optimal performance at its current setting ?
i dont understand the 133mhz processor speed when my cpu is supposed to be 3.06 GHz or how does that factor in or whats t mean. or how precisely does FSB work, or what should i set it to.
so here are my complete system specs (i should add that hyperthreading is enabled so i get that fnky 1/2 or 2 cpus thing):

so what can i do here ? can i raise the cpu speed ? ram speed ? FSB ? overclock video card ? and how ?
in my bios i have some overclocking options that i can use, but i am not sure what to input.
obviously i enabled the L2 cache,
my next otion is a CPU Voltage Regulator. i'm not sure if its a good or bad idea to up the voltage, or if it has to be done if i was to raise the actual CPU clock speed ? if so, by how much ? whats the ratio ? voltage goes in +- 0.025v incriments
Next I have a CPU CLock speed option, rigth now its set to 133, but it can go up to a lot, 165 if i am correct or around tehre. what can i set it up to easily without puting extreme strain on it but gaining a significant performance boost ?
next i have a SPread Spectrum option, not sure if its good to turn it on or off when overclocking, if so by how much ? it goes in 0.25% incriments.
according to the manual that came with the mobo, i am supposed to have a CPU CLock Ratio option as well, but its no where to be found, i do not see it anywhere in my bios.
then there are the RAM settings (CAS, RAS, etc etc), currently i have it set on "by SPD" which is default setting. can i get any extra performance here ? if so what should i input ? system is equipped with regular kingston pc 2700 memory (i think)
and what should i set the AGP aparature size for optimal performance ? is bigger or smaller better ?
thanks
its been ages since the last time i have had a chance to overclock a system way back in teh days of DOS 4.x and Windows 3.0 just barely peaking its head out.
so i forgot everything about how to do it.
now i got a new computer, which should kick some serious butt, but apparently doesnt. best score i have been able to get on the 3d mark 03 is about 5200. i have been told i should be able to easily pass 7k, maybe aproach or even hit 8k.
so i would like to know some detailed info, on how to overclock the CPU and teh video card. also, is tehre anyway to overclock the FSB ? or perhaps mine isnt set to optimal performance at its current setting ?
i dont understand the 133mhz processor speed when my cpu is supposed to be 3.06 GHz or how does that factor in or whats t mean. or how precisely does FSB work, or what should i set it to.
so here are my complete system specs (i should add that hyperthreading is enabled so i get that fnky 1/2 or 2 cpus thing):

so what can i do here ? can i raise the cpu speed ? ram speed ? FSB ? overclock video card ? and how ?
in my bios i have some overclocking options that i can use, but i am not sure what to input.
obviously i enabled the L2 cache,
my next otion is a CPU Voltage Regulator. i'm not sure if its a good or bad idea to up the voltage, or if it has to be done if i was to raise the actual CPU clock speed ? if so, by how much ? whats the ratio ? voltage goes in +- 0.025v incriments
Next I have a CPU CLock speed option, rigth now its set to 133, but it can go up to a lot, 165 if i am correct or around tehre. what can i set it up to easily without puting extreme strain on it but gaining a significant performance boost ?
next i have a SPread Spectrum option, not sure if its good to turn it on or off when overclocking, if so by how much ? it goes in 0.25% incriments.
according to the manual that came with the mobo, i am supposed to have a CPU CLock Ratio option as well, but its no where to be found, i do not see it anywhere in my bios.
then there are the RAM settings (CAS, RAS, etc etc), currently i have it set on "by SPD" which is default setting. can i get any extra performance here ? if so what should i input ? system is equipped with regular kingston pc 2700 memory (i think)
and what should i set the AGP aparature size for optimal performance ? is bigger or smaller better ?
thanks
