Okay got a Sony Vaio VGC-RC210G desktop. It has a Pentium D 930 3.0Ghz CPU in it. I'm trying to find out if I can put a C2D in here and if so what's the biggest CPU I can shove in there?

Info gathered so far:

Mobo: Prague AAD12395-206. Mobo markings say Intel Motherboard D945PRR and D945GPR.

Chip: Intel i945/PL/G/GZ Rev. 00

NB: Intel Lakeport i945P

Platform;: Anchor Creek

BIOS ID: PR94510J.04T.0115.2006.0417.1135

FSB: 533/800/1066

RAM: DDR2 400/533/667

I've been to the Intel and Sony websites (ran the chipset identifier on the Intel website and it said it wasn't even an Intel mobo...) and googled the hell out of the info I have and can't find any info on cpu upgrade. I've used Everest and CPUID to gather the info I have now. I just want to find out for sure what cpu I can put in here.

Any help is appreciated. TIA. :)

i945 can support a C2D CPU. Whether or not that mobo can, I don't know for sure.

Thanks. Yeah I've been all over Intels website and have found info for the i945 chipset. I'm trying to find detailed info on this mobo. Problem is is that the mobo id doesn't even show up on Intels website. There are several variations of the 945P mobo but this one isn't listed ANYWHERE.

BIOS dated 2006, which means the motherboard was designed well before. FWIW, there were almost no motherboards designed prior to 2006 that could support Core 2 Duo. Even Intel had to revise several of its boards to support C2D, including Bad Axe.

Thanks. I've found some info that kind of supports what you're saying. I found info saying this board in this model should support up to an E6600. But other info says it only supports up to a Pentium 960. One guy actually tried an E6600 with no luck. Wonder if a BIOS update might help?

Ugh....I think I'm done with it for now. I got it free and was just thinking of putting in a lower wattage cpu and using it for a HTPC project.
